DIRECTOR'S NOTE

It was February 2020, and our team 'The Heteroclites' was heading towards our 3rd project, following Lorca's 'Blood Wedding' and Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. We were in the midst of rehearsing our beloved Maria Iordanidou's 'Loxandra' and we were already at our second full rehearsal for the play! However, we underestimated the importance of the host...

Guided by Roxandra's wealth of emotions, her bright thoughts, we managed to escape the labyrinth of gloomy days we were going through. Her love for fellow humans, her care and selfless dedication, her acceptance of the flow of life with understanding and awareness, and most importantly, her deep wisdom that greatness of life lies in the simplest things, became the 'myth of Ariadne' for us, pulling us out of dark 'solitary thoughts' and bringing us to the radiant we strive together! We followed her along the fragrant path of shared meals and nourishment that unites us, soothing the anxieties of survival and enhancing coexistence. We watched her conversing with the creatures of her life, past, present, and future, with natural ease. And finally, we learned from her and the people in her life that every moment we are here, every second we breathe, is the most precious thing we can ever possess in our journey, and it's worth fighting for, with the best of what we have within us, to make it meaningful!

The historical events of yet another turbulent period in humanity (1874-1914) and the grief it sowed, as greed for power always does, run parallel to what unfolds in Roxandra's microcosm. The chilling and heart-wrenching part is that if we slightly change the names of the oppressors and victims, unfortunately, the pathogenicity of our species to impose upon our fellow humans remains intact! That is why we invite you to take this journey together into the essence of existence! To escape, even for a little while, from the tasteless tomorrow they propose to us and to experience the mystagogy of the flavorful present that we all share!
